چکیده
A Space and Time Mesoscale Analysis System (STMAS) has been developed at Forecast Systems Laboratory (FSL) to generate a grid analysis of surface observations. It is a three-dimensional variational analysis (3DVAR) of horizontal space and time instead of pressure or height levels. It is used to detect boundary layer phenomena, frontal zones, and various nonlinear phenomena, and has been used in the DTC Weather Forecast Experiments (Koch et al. 2005) to verify 5-km resolution WRF model forecasts.

متن کاملA review of operational, regional-scale, chemical weather forecasting models in Europe
Numerical models that combine weather forecasting and atmospheric chemistry are here referred to as chemical weather forecasting models. Eighteen operational chemical weather forecasting models on regional and continental scales in Europe are described and compared in this article. Topics discussed in this article include how weather forecasting and atmospheric chemistry models are integrated i...
متن کاملData-parallel numerical methods in a weather forecast model
The results presented in this paper are part of a research project to investigate the possibilities to apply massively parallel architectures for numerical weather forecasting. Within numerical weather forecasting several numerical techniques are used to solve the model equations. This paper compares the performance of implementations on a MasPar system of two techniques, nite di erence and spe...
متن کاملMulti-model multi-analysis ensemble weather forecasting on the grid for the South Eastern Mediterranean Region
Weather forecasting is based on the use of numerical weather prediction (NWP) models that are able to perform the necessary calculations that describe/predict the major atmospheric processes. One common problem in weather forecasting derives from the uncertainty related to the chaotic behaviour of the atmosphere. A solution to that problem is to perform in addition to “deterministic” forecasts,...
متن کاملEconomic Impacts of Advanced Weather Forecasting in Energy System Operations
We analyze the impacts of adopting advanced weather forecasting systems at different levels of the decision-making hierarchy of the power grid. Using case studies, we show that state-of-the-art numerical weather prediction (NWP) models can provide high-precision forecasts and uncertainty information that can significantly enhance the performance of planning, scheduling, energy management, and f...
